Wake Forest Cross Country Teams Sweep WFU Relays

Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's and women's cross country teams both won the Wake Forest Relays on Friday. Sean Stevens and Brandon Bartholomew scored as the top Deacon male pair finishing second, and Michelle Sikes and Jill Miller won the women's pair to lead the Deacons.
The men's team placed its top three pairs second (Stevens and Bartholomew), fourth (Brad Wharton and Joel Conn), and fifth (Chris Catton and John Compton). With their 11 point total, the Deacons topped North Carolina, 16 points, High Point, 22 points, and Elon, 42 points.
Both High Point's Tamas Kovacs and Pablo Durana of North Carolina ran the fastest two legs with a time of 21:56. Sean Stevens placed third overall with a time of 22:16. He was followed by Wharton (22:30), Conn (22:40), and Bartholomew (22:41).
On the women's side, the Deacons scored the lowest possible score with six points. The top three placing teams were Sikes and Miller, Hanna Bremler and Erin Franklin, Nicole Schappert and Allison Kieffer. North Carolina placed second with 16 points (fourth, fifth and eighth place teams), High Point finished third with 33 points, and Elon placed fourth with 34 points.
The Deacons swept the top-five individual spots. Schappert won the combined legs with a time of 17:12. She was followed by Franklin (17:20), Sikes (17:28), Miller (17:33), and Bremler (17:41).
