Mandy Goins leads the field after one round at the ACC Tournament

Nashville, Tenn. - The Wake Forest women's golf team completed the first round of the Mason Rudolph Challenge on Friday in fifth place. The 21st-ranked Demon Deacons fired an even par 288. The 54-hole event, hosted by Vanderbilt, is being contested at the Vanderbilt Legends Club. The par is 72 and yardage is 6,217 yards.

Vanderbilt is in first place with a nine-under par 279. Duke and Georgia are tied for second after each school shot three-under par 285. Arizona State is in fourth with a one-under 287.

Mandy Goins fired a two-under par 70 for the Deacons and stands in a tie for seventh place. Playing the back nine first, Goins opened her day with a bogey on number 10. The junior then birdied 12, 15 and 17 to make the turn at two-under par. On the front side, Goins made par on the first two holes then birdied three, bogeyed four, birdied five and bogeyed six before making par on the final three holes.

Nannette Hill shot an even par round of 72, good for a tie for 16th place. Hill made par on the first six holes before bogeying number 16. The freshman then birdied 17 and 18 to turn at one-under. After a pair of bogeys and a pair of birdies on the front, Hill bogeyed number nine, her final hole, to shoot even par for the day.

Maggie Simons shot a one-over par 73 for the Deacs. Simons stood three-over par after her opening nine after double bogeying 18, but bounced back on the front with birdies at three and four. The junior is in a tie for 25th place.

Joining Simons at one-over is freshman Jean Chua. Chua opened the day with four pars but her round quickly seesawed with a bogey at 14, birdie at 15, bogies at 16 and 17 and a birdie at 18. On the front nine, Chua birdied three, bogeyed five and six and birdied nine to shoot 73.

Sophomore Laura Crawford shot a three-over par 75 to round out the Deacons. Crawford opened the day with a one-over par 37 on the back nine, but bogeyed six and nine to close her round.

Vanderbilt's Jacqui Concolino and Liebelei Lawrence each fired four-under par rounds of 68 to take the individual lead. Duke's Anna Grzebien and Amanda Blumenherst, Auburn's Maria Martinez and Georgia's Alina Lee are in a tie for third after shooting three-under par 69.
