Winston-Salem, NC - Junior Todd Paul leads a trio of Wake Forest tennis players who are ranked among the nation's top 100 singles players in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason poll. The Deacons also have a doubles team listed in the national rankings.
Paul, a native of Stamford, Conn., is ranked 33rd in singles. He posted a 21-10 record last season, including a team-best 9-1 mark in ACC matches. In all dual matches, playing primarily at No. 2, Paul went 17-5.
Andrew Hamar, a junior from Pontypool, South Wales, checks in at No. 70. Hamar went 20-10 as a sophomore with a 16-5 record in dual matches, typically playing No. 3 singles.
Brett Ross, a senior from Marietta, Ga., led the Deacons with 26 singles wins last year. He ranks 91st in the preseason poll. Ross went 26-11 overall, 8-2 in the ACC and 17-7 in dual matches.
Despite not playing a doubles match together in 2004, Paul and Ross are a nationally-ranked doubles pair in the preseason. They rank 36th.
24 of the nation's top 125 ranked singles players play in the Atlantic Coast Conference. 13 of the top 60 doubles teams belong to the ACC.
