Freshman Brent LaRue placed second overall in the heptathlon scoring 4732 points. LaRue opened with a third place showing in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.18 seconds. He then placed third in the long jump with a distance of 6.46 meters. LaRue added a shot put of 10.44 meters and a high jump of 1.93 meters to close out the first day. On Saturday, LaRue recorded a 60 meter hurdles time of 8.36 seconds, pole vaulted 3.15 meters and closed out the heptathlon by winning the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:56.12.
Sophomore Michael Bingham was cruising along in the heptathlon sitting in second place after the first day. Bingham ran a 60 meter dash in 6.99 seconds, long jumped 6.70 meters, threw the shot put 11.36 meters and high jumped a height of 1.84 meters. After starting day two with an 8.40 in the 60 meter hurdles, Bingham was unable to clear the bar in the pole vault and did not record any height or points dropping him in the standings. After a time of 2:56.25 in final event, the 1000 meters, he finished in sixth place with 4443 points.
Taylor Wildman also competed in the heptathlon placing seventh overall with 4089 points. Wildman ran a 7.43 60 meter hurdles, long jumped 5.88 meters, shot put 10.16 meters and high jumped 1.69 meters on the opening day. Wildman then ran a 9.13 in the 60 meter hurdles; pole vaulted a height of 3.75 meters and ran a 3:18.45 in the 1000 meters.
Diane Anderson placed 10th in the women's 400 meter dash running a time of 1:00.90.
Sophomore Michelle Duffey set a new personal best and facility record by winning the 500 meter dash with a time of 1:18.31.
The Deacons placed four runners in the top five in the women's mile run led by junior Michelle Sikes who captured the event with a time of 4:56.10. Freshman Nicole Schappert placed second with a time of 4:58.49, followed by senior Hanna Bremler who ran a time of 4:59.96. Sophomore Merry Placer turned in a fifth place showing running a personal best time of 5:11.14.
The women's 4x400 meter relay team of Anderson, Duffey, Lauren Henn and Melissa Council placed sixth running a time of 4:03.33.
The women's distance medley team fared better winning the event with a time of 11:54.07. The team, comprised of Schappert, Anderson, Duffey and Sikes, won the event by over 20 seconds.
Junior pole vaulter Jill Aherns posted an indoor personal best by recording a height of 3.30 meters (10'10.00"). Aherns vault was good for fourth place. Kerri Norton placed in a tie for 17th in the event with a height of 2.70 meters (8'10.25").
Johanna Hawkins placed in eighth in the women's long jump jumping a distance of 5.09 meters.
Senior Lindsay Neuberger easily won the shot put with a distance of 15.05 meters. Junior Catherine Muehleib placed in a tie for second with a distance of 13.19 meters. Neuberger also captured the weight throw with a distance of 16.95 meters.
Council placed fourth overall in the pentathlon scoring 3133 points while Molly Kennedy placed one spot behind in fifth scoring 3117 points.
In the men's 60 meter dash, Kerry Major placed 10th in the preliminaries running a time of 6.98, just missing qualifying for the finals by less than a hundredth of a second.
Major did place 13th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.87 seconds. Raymond Harbert placed 36th in the event running a time of 24.39 seconds. Frank Lawler placed one spot behind with a time of 24.47.
In the 400 meter dash, the Deacons placed three runners in the top 10, led by Eric Seely who placed third with a time of 49.53. Senior Willie Idlette placed sixth running a time of 50.33 and sophomore Aaron Russell placed ninth with a time of 50.60. Midion Smith came in 27th with a time of 54.16.
In the 500 meter dash, freshman Phillip Warsaw placed third with a time of 1:06.05 and sophomore Ben Renner placed sixth with a time of 1:11.05.
Junior Chris Catton placed third in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:54.90.
In the men's 300 meter run,
Matthew Owen captured the mile run with a time of 4:22.38.
In the 5000 meter run, sophomore John Compton placed second with a time of 15:44.51.
Senior Mike Loyd placed second in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 7.90 seconds.
The distance medley team comprised of Catton,
Seth Yetter placed seventh in the men's high jump with a height of 1.87 meters. Freshman Stephen Anderson also competed in the event jumping a height of 1.83 meters, good for 10th place.
Freshman Boomer Peterson placed third in the shot put with a distance of 15.08 meters. Senior Josh Carter placed 18th in the shot put with a distance of 11.94 meters.
Adam Gabrault placed sixth in the men's weight throw with a distance of 16.43 meters. Peterson placed 14th with a throw of 12.29 meters.
