WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest men's golfers, junior Webb Simpson and freshman Brendan Gielow, both earned separate individual honors today.

Simpson is one of 23 players named to the watch list for the prestigious Ben Hogan Award, which goes annually to the nation's top golfer. Gielow was named an honorable mention Rolex Junior All-American by the American Junior Golf Association.

The Ben Hogan is presented annually to the top men's NCAA Division I, II or III, NAIA or junior college golfer taking into account all collegiate and amateur competitions during the last 12 months. Wake Forest's Bill Haas is a previous winner of the award.

The Hogan Award selection committee will announce 10 semi-finalists on April 4 and name three finalists on May 2. The three finalists will attend The Hogan Award banquet on May 22 at Colonial Country Club - the Tuesday prior to the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial -- with the recipient announced that evening.

Simpson, Clemson's Kyle Stanley and Georgia Tech's Cameron Tringale are the only ACC players on the list. Simpson is a two-time All-ACC selection, the 2005 ACC Freshman of the Year and a 2006 second team All-American.

Brendan Gielow of Muskegon, Mich., was named an honorable mention Rolex Junior All-American by the American Junior Golf Association, thus joining an esteemed collection of current and former top-level junior golfers from around the world.

Gielow, 19, a 2006 graduate of Mona Shores High School in Michigan, earns honorable mention All-American honors for the second time. He also earned the honor in 2003. Gielow made the most of his few national junior golf appearances in 2006 by finishing in the top five in two of his three events. A third-place finish at the Scott Robertson Memorial in Roanoke, Va., in May and a fifth-place finish at the Western Junior Championship at Cantigny Golf Club in Wheaton, Ill., in July helped him climb to 41st nationally in the final 2006 Polo Golf Rankings.

Introduced by the AJGA in 1978, the Rolex Junior All-America Teams annually recognize those players who have established themselves as the world's premier junior golfers. Former Rolex Junior All-Americans comprise the top players on both the PGA and LPGA Tours. Of the PGA Tour's current top-10 money leaders, Tiger Woods, Jim Furyk, Phil Mickelson, Trevor Immelman and David Toms were all Rolex Junior All-Americans.
