Women's Golf Finishes Fourth at Northrop Grumman

Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. - The Wake Forest women's golf team closed out its spring opener on Wednesday in fourth place at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge. The Demon Deacons shot a final round 305, 21-over par, and finished with a three-day total of 909, 57-over par. Arizona State claimed the team title with a 40-over par 892. USC placed second one shot behind the Sun Devils. Cal edged Wake Forest for third with a 56-over par 908. The 54-hole Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge was contested at Palos Verdes Golf Club. The par is 71 and yardage is 5,912 yards.

Nannette Hill was the low individual for the Deacs placing in a tie for fourth, with a score of 220, seven-over par. Hill followed up an opening round one-over par 72 with rounds of 73 and 75. Hill also was only one of two golfers in the tournament to record an eagle, the other being teammate Maggie Simons. The freshman opened her first round with a two on the 360 yard par four first hole.

Junior Mandy Goins carded a final round 75, four-over par, and finished the event with a 12-over par total of 225. Goins placed 11th individually for the Deacons.

Freshman Jean Chua added a seven-over par 78 for Wake Forest en route to finishing with a 54-hole total of 230, 17-over. Chua placed in a four-way tie for 26th.

Sophomore Laura Crawford shot her third consecutive round of 79, eight-over par in the event. Her 237 total placed Crawford in a tie for 53rd.

Junior Maggie Simons bounced back after a second round 87 with a final round score of 77, six-over par. Simons finished with a 29-over par total of 242.

Senior Julie McKenna, competing in the event as an individual withdrew from the competition.

The Deacons will return to action March 10-12 as they travel to Columbia, S.C. to compete at the Lady Gamecock Classic hosted by South Carolina. For the latest on Wake Forest women's golf, visit WakeForestSports.com
