Women's Golf Tied for Sixth at Gamecock Classic

*Columbia**, S.C. - *The Wake Forest women's golf team finished the first round of the Lady Gamecock Classic in a sixth place tie, firing a 17-over par 305. The Deacs stand just five strokes behind leader Tennessee (+12, 300). The 54-hole event, hosted by South Carolina, began Friday and ends Sunday and is being contested at The University Club. Par is 72 and yardage is 5,996 yards.
Furman is second with a 301 total, 13-over par. Florida State and Virginia are tied for third with 14-over par totals of 302. One spot ahead of the Deacons is Auburn who shot a 16-over 304. Wake Forest is tied with NC State in sixth.
Juniors Mandy Goins and Maggie Simons each fired rounds of three-over par 75 to open the tournament. The two are in a tie for 12^th place. Freshman Jean Chua added a five-over par 77 and stands in a tie for 18^th . Sophomore Laura Crawford and freshman Nannette Hill each shot six-over par 78 on Friday and are tied for 27^th .
Sophomore Jordan Craig, competing as an individual, shot an eight-over par 80 and stands in a tie for 43^rd .
Florida State's Caroline Westrup has the individual lead after shooting a two-under par round 70. Tennessee's Golda Johansson is two strokes behind at even par and in second place. NC State's Lorraine Ballerano, Florida State's Caroline Larsson and Auburn's Maria Martinez are all tied for third at one-over par.
