Women's Golf Slips to Second at Liz Murphey

Athens, Ga. - The Wake Forest women's golf team dropped to second place at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic on Saturday. The Deacons held the first round lead after firing the only sub-300 round of the tournament, 298. However, on Saturday, Wake Forest shot a 22-over par 310. The Deacons trail host school Georgia by five shots (301-302--603) going into the final round on Sunday. The tournament is being contested at the UGA Golf Club where par is 72 and the yardage is 6,228 yards.
Junior Mandy Goins led the way for the Deacs firing a two-over par 74. Goins has a five-over par total of 149 and stands in a tie for fourth. Freshman Nannette Hill added a six-over 78 for Wake and is in a tie for sixth at 150, six-over par.
Junior Maggie Simons is tied for ninth, one shot behind Hill. Simons fired a four-over par 76 on Saturday and sits at 151 after 36 holes.
Freshman Jean Chua and sophomore Laura Crawford each shot 10-over par 82 for the Deacs. Chua is in a tie for 40th with a two-day total of 158, 14-over par. Crawford is in a tie for 47th with a 36-hole total of 159, 15-over par.
Auburn's Nicole Hage, Vanderbilt's Chris Brady and Washington's Amber Prange all share the 36-hole lead at 148, four-over par.
The 54-hole event began on Friday and ends on Sunday. Wake Forest will next play at the Bryan National Collegiate in Greensboro, N.C. First round play begins on Friday, March 31st.
