TRACK AND FIELD INDOOR SEASON RECAP

*Winston-Salem, N.C. - *The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams have completed the indoor season and look to open up the outdoor season on March 18 at North Carolina A&T's outdoor meet. The Deacons finished the indoor season with great success with several school records falling.
On the men's side, sophomore Michael Bingham continued his stellar career by earning All-ACC honors in the 200 meter dash by placing second in the event at the ACC Championships. Bingham also ran a time of 21.15 seconds in the event breaking John Stone's 1999 record of 21.23 seconds. Bingham's mark places him 20^th in the nation. Bingham also, for one day, held the school record in the 400 meter dash.
Bingham was also a member of the record-breaking 4x400 meter relay team. The team which also consisted of freshman Brent LaRue and seniors Willie Idlette and Eric Seely broke the school record of 3:15.51 on three separate occasions. The team set its lowest mark in their final meet running an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 3:09.20. That time stood as the 21^st best time in the country.
Seely also had a record-breaking indoor season. At the ACC Championships, Seely ran a time of 47.43 seconds earning him third in the finals. Seely broke the school record set a day earlier by Bingham who ran a time of 47.50 in the preliminaries. He also finished eighth in the 200 meter finals at the conference meet.
Senior Sean Stevens had a pair of third place finishes at the ACC Championships in the 5000 meter run and in the 3000 meter run. Stevens earned all-conference honors for each of those performances and broke Kyle Armentrout's 1995 record of 14:18.10 in the 5k with a time of 14:15.77.
LaRue placed fourth in the heptathlon at the conference meet and also ran on the record-breaking 4x400 meter team. The freshman also broke the 500 meter dash school record at the Virginia Tech Invitational.
Freshman Boomer Peterson placed eighth in the shot put at the ACC meet with a toss of 15.92 meters. Kerry Major also finished seventh in the long jump at the meet in just his second meet.
Senior Mike Loyd placed 31^st in the nation in the 60 meter hurdles with a personal best time of 7.89 seconds.
On the women's side, senior Lindsay Neuberger continued to raise the bar in the women's shot put with a school record 15.85 meters in the event. That mark stood as the 20^th best in the country during the indoor season. Neuberger also placed second at the ACC Championships in the event and earned all-conference for her performance.
Junior Michelle Sikes placed fourth at the conference meet in the 3000 meter run. She also ran the 40^th best time in the country in the event with a time of 9:33.36.
Sophomore Melissa Council also became the first Deacon to ever run the 300 meter dash in under 40 seconds. Council ran a time of 39.31 at the Virginia Tech Challenge to break the school record.
Freshman Nicole Schappert set a new freshman school record in the mile with a time of 4:49.87 at the New Balance Meet in New York.
Finally, assistant coach Chris Boyles placed third in the men's heptathlon at the 2006 USA Indoor Combined Events Championships. Boyles finished with 5751 points, just 198 points behind the winner Ryan Harlan.
