No. 16 Wake Forest Women's Tennis Falls to No. 21 Clemson, 4-3

CLEMSON, S.C. - The No. 16 Wake Forest women's tennis team fell just short of closing its regular season finale with a win, as the Demon Deacons fell 4-3 to No. 21 Clemson, Sunday afternoon at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. Entering the ACC Tournament next weekend, Wake Forest owns a 12-8 overall record and 5-6 mark in the conference, while the Tigers improve to 15-6 and 8-3.
In doubles, the Tigers took the early 1-0 lead as the Demon Deacons fell short in two of the three matches. Junior Ashlee Davis and freshman Ana Jerman paired up for the first time this season and earned the only doubles victory, defeating Maria Brito and Marie Scriba, 8-5 at No. 3.
Also playing together for the first time this spring, Alex Hirsch and Sierra Poske fell to No. 9 Carol Salge and Frederica Van adrichem, 8-6, at No. 1. In the second flight, Christine Simpson and Christian Tara paired and fell to No. 56 Daniela Alvarez and Alexandra Luc, 8-4.
The Demon Deacons rallied back in the singles portion and won three of the six matches. Playing at the No. 2 position, Davis split the first two sets with Alvarez before winning the third and the point, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4. At the fourth flight Tara also pushed her match into a third set and won, 7-6, 4-6, 6-4. Earning the third and final point for the Deacs, Simpson defeated Kathi Gerber in straight sets at No. 6.
Wake Forest will next travel to the ACC Championships in Cary, N.C. from April 20-23. The seeding for the tournament will be announced on Monday, April 16.
