St. Louis, Mo. - Junior running back Micah Andrews and senior offensive tackle Steve Vallos were selected to The Sporting News' first team preseason All-ACC team, the magazine announced Thursday. Junior linebacker Jon Abbate and senior safety Josh Gattis were chosen to the second team.
The publication also listed its top players at each position nationally and six Deacons warranted mentioning. Gattis was listed as the seventh-best free safety nationally while Vallos checked as the number 12 offensive tackle. Senior Damon McWhite ranked 13th at fullback. Sophomore Sam Swank, a Lou Groza semifinalist as a rookie last year, was listed as the nation's 14th-best kicker. Andrews rated as the 17th-best running back and Abbate rounded out the inside linebacker checklist at number 20.
