Track and Field Begins NCAA Regional Friday

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Members of the Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams will compete at the NCAA East Regional in Greensboro beginning Friday. The Demon Deacons will be represented by 10 athletes in eight different events including two relays. The meet will be held at NC A&T's Irwin Belk Track. A two-day pass is $18 for adults and $10 for children 17-and under. A single-day pass is $10 for adults and $7 for children 17-under.
On the men's side, in the 400 meter dash, the Deacons will be represented by Michael Bingham (46.72 seconds) and Willie Idlette (46.62 seconds). Three Deacons will compete in the 200 meter dash - Mike Loyd (21.19 seconds), Kevin Marion (20.90 seconds) and Eric Seely (21.05 seconds). Brad Wharton will run in the 1500 meter run and Kerry Major will compete in the long jump. The Deacons will also run in both the 400 meter relay (39.46 seconds) and the 1600 meter relay (3:07.49).
Three Deacons will compete on the women's side. Caitlin Chrisman (16:41.59) and Michelle Sikes (16:09.86) will run in the 5000 meter run and Nicole Schappert (4:25.22) will run in the 1500 meter run.
Freshman Brent LaRue qualified provisionally in the decathlon with his 7,066 point performance at the ACC Championships.
