Wake Forest Steamrolls San Diego In Season Opener

Evanston, Ill. - The 24th-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 victory in its season opener against the 42nd-ranked University of San Diego. The Demon Deacons did not drop a set while winning all six singles and three doubles matches on Saturday in Evanston, Ill.
Wake Forest set the tone in doubles with three dominating performances. At number one, Todd Paul and Mariusz Adamski defeated Thomas Liversage and Chris Coetzee, 8-3. Cory Parr and Charles Sartor rolled at number two against Jonas Mouly and Charl Wolmarans, 8-2. Steven Forman and Andrew Hamar blasted Ryo Sekiguchi and Levon Brown, 8-1.
In singles play, fourth-ranked Paul eased past Mouly 6-2, 6-0. Paul, 2006 All-American, improved his season record to 12-2. A trio of veterans Hamar, Parr, Adamski also posted straight set victories.
Wake Forest had two freshmen in the lineup and both notched easy wins. At number five, Steven Forman, playing in his first collegiate match, won 6-2, 6-4. His victory sealed the team win for the Deacons. Jason Morgenstern played number six and earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory.
Wake Forest has captured victories in each of its last three season openers. The Deacons will try to keep the momentum going against Northwestern on Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m.
