
Wake Forest Falls to Clemson 73-57

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Sophomore Alex Tchangoue posted her fourth double-double of the season, but it was not enough for Wake Forest as Clemson used a big second-half run to race past the Demon Deacons 73-57 Friday evening at Joel Coliseum.
Wake has now lost four straight and stands at 8-6 overall and 0-2 in the ACC. Clemson has won six of its past seven and moves to 9-7 overall and 1-0 in the ACC.
Tchangoue scored 12 points and pulled down a team-best 10 rebounds to lead the Deacons.
Sophomore Yolanda Lavender turned in a game-high 19 points, marking the 12th straight game she has scored in double figures. Lavender also dished out five assists. She has had five or more assists in each of the past four games.
Sophomore Corinne Groves finished the night with eight points and eight rebounds, while redshirt freshman Sarah Riddle had a career-high five boards.
Clemson broke open a close game in the first half, using a 12-2 run to erase a 10-9 Wake Forest lead midway through the period.
After the Deacons followed with a 7-2 run, the Tigers maintained their advantage and took a 30-24 margin into halftime.
Wake opened the second period by out-scoring Clemson 9-2, giving the Deacs a 33-32 lead. However, the lead was short-lived as the Tigers responded with six straight points to start an 11-2 run that gave the visitors a lead they would not relinquish.
Clemson steadily increased its margin to as much as 24 before coming away with the 73-57 win.
The Tigers took advantage of 23 Wake Forest turnovers, converting them into 17 points. Clemson also scored 34 of its points in the paint, compared to 24 for the Deacons.
The Tigers were led by Christy Brown's 18 points. D'Lesha Lloyd and Tasha Taylor chipped in 17 points apiece.
For the game, Wake Forest shot 39.6 percent (21-of-53) from the floor, while Clemson made good on 43.5 percent (27-of-62) of its field goals. The Tigers were also 6-for-12 from three-point range.
The Demon Deacons out-rebounded the Tigers 37-32.
Wake Forest returns to action on Monday when it hosts UNC Asheville in the annual Middle School Day at 11 a.m.
