Wake Competes in Rain-Soaked Sea Ray Relays

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -
The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams were in Knoxville, Tenn., this weekend for the Sea Ray Relays. Due to inclement weather in the area, the remainder of the meet was cancelled on Saturday, a first in the 41-year history of the event.
The meet was cancelled at 2:46 p.m. At the time of the cancellation, four events were in progress. Consequently there are only partial results available for the open javelin and long jump as well as the women's shot and long jump.
Highlighting the meet for the Deacs was a regionally-qualifying time in the 1,500-meter run by senior Michelle Sikes. The Lakewood, Ohio, native ran the event in a time of 4:19.07, winning the race and surpassing the regional standard by over eight seconds.
Also finishing in the top eight was the women's 4x100-meter shuttle race. The team, consisting of Caroline Vaughn, Molly Kennedy, Alexandra Gove and Kristen Edgar, placed third in the event in a time of 59.80.
The women's 4x1,500-meter relay team of Merry Placer, Caitlin Chrisman, Whitney Curry and Kelly Polisin placed second in a time of 19:26.67.
Competing in the 800-meter run, junior Chris Catton had a seasonal-best result of 1:52.98.
In field events, Catherine Muehleib placed sixth in the shot put with a toss of 42-7 while Carly Mauch finished fourth in the javelin with a throw of 129-11.
The Sea Ray Relays served as the final tune up for the Deacs before next weekend's ACC Outdoor Championships. This year's event will take place in College Park, Md.
