Second Round of the NCAA Championships -
The third in a series of blogs written by senior Mandy Goins. Wake Forest is participating this week at the NCAA Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla. Twenty-four teams are competing for the top prize in collegiate golf. Goins gives a behind-the-scenes look at traveling with the Deacs.
Hello from Daytona! Two rounds down and two to go! We played better day today as a team and are currently tied for 11th, but are definitely planning on moving on up tomorrow and Friday. I think we got the better end of the deal with the early tee times today because the wind was pretty strong this afternoon. It was windy for the first round too, but a little worse today. Luckily for us, we've had plenty of practice in the wind this year. Despite the wind, the weather has been great and the temperatures are perfect for golf. The greens are getting a little firmer and faster each day so I'm sure they'll be in great shape for the next two days. We are pretty happy with our position right now because all the scores are bunched together and we know we still have room to improve.
After today's round, we practiced putting for a little while then headed back to the hotel to rest and relax. Some of us spent some time at the beach and the pool this afternoon, which was very nice. I think some of the girls could have stayed out there forever. We went to a really good restaurant tonight down the road with some of our parents and biggest fans. Maggie and I just got back from a senior meeting to help prepare a skit for the banquet Friday night. It's hard to believe that this is our last collegiate tournament. Now it's time to get mentally ready for tomorrow and get some sleep. Tomorrow (Thursday) is moving day! Tee times start at 12:30...check us out on golfstat!
