WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest head field hockey coach Jennifer Averill announced the hiring of Christina Restivo as assistant coach. Restivo recently concluded her collegiate career at Maryland where she served as a goalkeeper on the 2005 and 2006 National Champion teams.
"We were looking for someone who had a good foundation and good knowledge of goalkeeping and Christina's philosophy fit what we were looking for," said Averill. "We're excited for Christina to join our staff and really respect what she has to offer. She adds an encouraging attitude and another dimension to field hockey and we're really excited to complete our staff."
Restivo appeared in 39 games for the Terrapins and started 24 of them. The Parkton, Md. native recorded 52 saves and six shutouts, including four her sophomore year.
In 2006, Restivo specialized in penalty strokes which became necessary during the national semifinal game versus seventh-ranked Connecticut as she stopped two penalty strokes against the Huskies to help advance Maryland to the title game and earned a spot on the All-NCAA tournament team.
"I'm really looking forward to the new position at Wake Forest," said Restivo. "I'm excited to work with the goalkeepers and defense and really looking forward to bringing back a national championship to the program."
Restivo graduated in May with a degree in public and community health.
