Field Hockey Ranked Second in Preseason Poll

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest field hockey team will open its 2007 campaign ranked second in the preseason National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) coaches poll released today.
The NCAA Runner-up Demon Deacons are behind National Champion Maryland, which received 18 first-place votes. ACC foes North Carolina and Duke are ranked third and fourth, respectively, while Connecticut rounds out the top 5.
The Tar Heels received 14 first-place votes, while Penn State, Virginia and Wake Forest each received one to round out the 35 votes overall.
Wake Forest opens its 2007 schedule on Friday when it takes part in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Deacs face No. 10-ranked Iowa at noon (ET) on Friday and face host and 12th-ranked Michigan on Saturday at 3 p.m. (ET). North Carolina completes this year's tournament field.
