SAN FRANCISCO, C.A. - Wake Forest golfer Brendan Gielow dropped a 3 and 2 decision to Colt Knost on Thursday in the second round of match play at the United States Amateur Golf Championship being contested at The Olympic Club.

Gielow, of Muskegon, Mich., had advanced to match play by finishing among the top 64 golfers in stroke play. He then won his first round match and advanced to the field of 32 before being eliminated by Knost.

Knost, who plays at SMU, is the 2007 U.S. Amateur Public Links champion. Knost then won his afternoon match over 54-year old George Zahringer, the 2002 U.S. Mid-Amateur champion. Knost is trying to become just the second player to win the APL and the Amateur in the same year.

Gielow will return to campus shortly to begin his sophomore season with the Deacons.
