CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Wake Forest placed 11th at the ACC Championships hosted by North Carolina at the Ranson-Hamrick Cross Country Course. Greg Billington led the Deacons for the second consecutive year at the ACC Championships with his time of 25:43.1 in the 8K and a 38th-overall finish.
Paul Loeser returned to the lineup this week and placed second for the Deacons. His time of 26:58.9 came in 81st overall.
Also scoring for the Deacons were Tom Morrison, Nicholas Lepley and Ben Morrow. Morrison's time of 27:13.8 placed him 85th overall. Finishing 98th and 99th, Lepley recorded a time of 28:53.6, and Morrow finished with a time of 28:55.3.
Zach Hines and Matt King rounded out the Deacon squad, finishing 101st and 102nd overall.
"We're really running a lot of guys who still have to learn more about Division I cross country and we're trying. The best thing is that the team is committed to it and they're committed to being better than 11th," said head coach Annie Bennett.
"They weren't happy with their place today but I reminded them about Wake Forest's men's soccer story. In two years they went from being last in the ACC to becoming the 2007 National Champions."
Virginia repeated as meet champions for the second consecutive year with 40 points. Virginia's Ryan Foster was the individual champion with a time of 24:27.7. N.C. State was the runner-up team with 56 points, followed by Virginia Tech with 75.
The Deacons will host the Southeast Regionals on Nov. 15, at the first-ever NCAA cross country event at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons, N.C. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. with the women's race, followed by the men's race at 12 p.m.
