GREENSBORO, N.C. - The No. 14 Wake Forest women's golf team carded an 18-over 306 to land in tenth place following round one of the Bryan Park National Collegiate in Brown Summit, N.C.
Jean Chua led the Deacs with a two-over 74, almost four shots under her season average of 77.7. The junior is currently tied for 11th place and led the team in birdies on the day with three.
Freshman Allie Bodemann is tied for 23rd after posting a three-over 75. Bodemann was one over par but double-bogeyed hole nine, her last hole of the afternoon.
Nannette Hill recorded a five-over 77 to finish Friday's round tied for 39th. Hill was the top-finisher for the Deacs one year ago as the junior tied for 18th in the 2007 Bryan Park tournament.
Freshman Natalie Sheary and senior Laura Crawford are knotted in 80th place. The pair each shot eight-over 80s for the round.
Sheary's first round total is her highest since a 79 in round one of the Landfall Tradition in October. Crawford's 80 was her highest since an 81 in the final round of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in February.
Jordan Craig, competing as an individual, is currently tied for 23rd after carding a three-over 73.
Duke leads the 18-team field after shooting a six-over 294. The Blue Devils have won the Bryan Park National Collegiate six times since the event began in 1998.
College of Charleston's Steffi Kirchmayr posted a three-under 69 and leads three players tied for second place by one stroke in the race for individual honors.
Teams will tee-off at 10 a.m. for Saturday's second round.
Conditions for Saturday's round will be a drastic change from the pleasant weather Friday. A high of 48 degrees with a 20 percent chance of rain has been projected for the Greensboro area by weather.com. Storms are projected for Friday night as well.
