Auburn Stuns No. 25 Wake 4-3 in NCAA Opener

ATHENS, Ga. - The 25th-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team opened the NCAA Tournament with a doubles sweep over No. 33 Auburn, but fell short in singles and ended the season with a 4-3 loss to the Tigers at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the University of Georgia campus.
Wake Forest will finish the year with a 17-11 record, while the Tigers will advance to the second round of the championships with an 11-12 mark.
Cory Parr and Steve Forman, who were recently dubbed ITA All-Americans, opened the match with an 8-4 win over Alexey Tsyrenov and Terence Nugent at No. 1. Mariusz Adamski and Carlos Salmon followed with the clinching win, an 8-6 decision over Tim Puetz and Pawel Dilaj at No. 2, snapping their nine-match losing streak and giving Wake a 1-0 advantage heading into singles.
Parr forged ahead in singles with a 6-3, 6-3 rout of 27th-ranked Alexey Tsyrenov at No. 1, improving his overall record to 26-12 for the year.
The Tigers got on the board when Tim Puetz topped Steven Forman at No. 2, but Wake Forest sophomore Andrew Brasseaux countered with a straight set win over Nick Maurillo at No. 6.
Adamski and Jonathan Wolff both fought Tiger competitors through three sets, but Auburn pulled out three more wins to take the opening round victory.
Cory Parr and Steve Forman will begin competition in the NCAA Individual championships, set to begin May 21 in Tulsa, Okla.
