WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest's Nannette Hill and Natalie Sheary have been selected to the All-ACC Women's Golf Team and Sheary has been named the Freshman of the Year in the conference.
Sheary is the first Freshman of the Year for the Deacs since Marta Prieto won the award in 1998.
Hill, a junior from Pelham, N.Y., was selected all-conference for the second straight season after posting a 74.9 stroke average, good for ninth-best in the ACC.
Hill and Sheary combined to give Wake Forest back-to-back individual medalists for the first time in program history.
Hill took individual honors at the Landfall Tradition in the last event of the fall semester after posting a one-over 217.
This win was followed by Sheary's one-stroke victory at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge to open the spring semester. Sheary became the first freshman to win an event for Wake since Marta Prieto won the ACC Championship in 1998.
"She played great, so solidly. There was some remarkable play from her," Wake Forest head coach Dianne Dailey said of Sheary. "Every time she missed a green she went up and down and saved par. They weren't easy putts by any means."
Along with her win at the Landfall Tradition in October, Hill was the top finisher for the Deacs at the Bryan Park National Collegiate in Brown Summit, N.C. Hill also holds the low round of the season for the Deacs, a 66 in the second round of the Landfall Tradition.
Sheary was the top finisher for Wake at the NCAA Fall Preview (t13), Lady Tar Heel Invitational (t5), Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge (1), SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational (t4) and the ACC Championship (5).
Sheary leads the ACC's freshman class with a stroke average of 74.1 and is ranked 31st in the nation by Golfweek.
Following her win at the Northrop Grumman, Golfworld featured Sheary as its Female College Golfer of the Week.
Hill and Sheary will return to action Thursday in the first round of the NCAA East Regional at the UGA Golf Course in Athens, Ga.
