USA Field Hockey Gets Boost from Former Deacons

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Former Wake Forest field hockey athletes Kelly Doton and Lauren Crandall are two of 16 elite players selected for the U.S. Olympic Team. The squad is currently preparing for a three-game series against the Netherlands, the top ranked team in the world.
The U.S. national team kicked off its European tour over the 4th of July holiday weekend, playing a four-nation tournament against Germany, Korea and India in Bremen, Germany. Kelly Doton scored the only goal in USA's 1-1 draw with India on a penalty corner. The team finished third in the tourney and will begin play against the Netherlands on July 9.
On August 10, the USA kicks off competition in the Olympics with Argentina, the 2007 Pan American Games champions. Germany, Great Britain, New Zealand and Japan are also in the same playing pool.
