WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest field hockey athletes Melissa Martin and Kaitlin Piosa were selected as two of the 12 athletes that will represent the United States at the 2008 Pan Am Indoor Games.
"It was a difficult and arduous decision by the coaching staff," U.S. Indoor Head Coach Shawn Hindy said. "I am very proud of the commitment and effort by every member of the National Squad to this point."
Melissa Martin, a midfielder out of Lancaster, Pa., is entering her junior season with the Demon Deacons. During 2007 Martin earned ACC Player of the Week honors and was named a Regional All-American at the end of the season for her eight goals and six assists for the year.
Kaitlin Piosa (Lehighton, Pa.) is starting her freshman season with Wake Forest and will likely play in the backfield or midfield in 2008. Piosa was named a National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-American in 2007 for her performance with the Lehighton Area HS team, where she helped lead the squad to its third straight Mountain Valley Conference Championship as team captain.
The Games are set for November 19-23 in San Juan, Argentina and will feature matches with Paraguay, Peru, Argentina, Mexico and Chile.
