BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Playing in just his second career tournament, freshman Lee Bedford carded a 1-over par 73 on Tuesday to lead the Wake Forest men's golf team in the final round of the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate.

The Deacons carded a 302 in the third round and couldn't improve upon their starting position, ultimately finishing 11th.

Bedford carded the low round of the day for Wake, with his 73. He was 3-over through his first six holes after a birdie and four bogies to start the round. However, Bedford made two birdies and ten pars over his final 12 holes to post 1-over.

After a 79 in the opening round and an even-par 72 in the second round, Bedford finished at 8-over 224 and tied for 19th.

Junior Brendan Gielow posted a pair of 37s en route to a final round 74. He had three birdies, three bogies and one double bogie to finish the 54-hole event at 9-over par and tied for 24th.

Senior Dustin Groves led the field in birdies at the Carpet Capital but it was the big numbers that plagued him then and it was more of the same this weekend. Groves made nine birdies and an eagle over the three rounds, but the Keswick, Va., native couldn't keep the bogies off the card.

After rounds of 80 and 72 yesterday, Groves recorded four birdies, seven bogies and just one par over his final 12 holes today on his way to a 78. He finished tied for 39th with a three round total of 230.

Redshirt junior Marc Gladson and freshman Daniel Meggs finished the tournament at 17- and 18-over, respectively. Meggs carded a 77 in the final round while Gladson posted his highest round of the tournament with an 80.

The course was playing difficult all weekend as just two players broke par for the 54 holes. East Tennessee State's Rhys Enoch and UAB's Zach Sucher each finished at 2-under par to share medalist honors.

Despite shooting a 299 in the final round and having just one player finish in the top ten, Baylor was able to hold off Mississippi and take the team title. Mississippi had three players in the top eight and shot the lowest round on Tuesday but it wasn't enough.

The Deacons have little time to dwell on this weekend as they are back in action next Monday and Tuesday at the VCU Shootout at the Hermitage C.C. in Manikin-Sabot, Va.
