WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Current Wake Forest baseball head coach Rick Rembielak will be inducted into the Kent State Varsity "K" Athletics Hall of Fame this weekend.
Rembielak spent 11 seasons as head coach of the Golden Flashes and a total of 17 seasons overall at Kent State. He compiled a record of 373-251-1 during his tenure and is still the school's winningest coach in any sport. He posted an impressive 200-100 record against Mid-American Conference opponents.
His Kent State teams claimed four regular season MAC Championships and three MAC Tournament titles. He also led the Golden Flashes to four appearances in the NCAA Tournament. Rembielak was named MAC Coach of the Year three times while at Kent State.
Rembielak coached four MAC Pitchers of the Year, along with having 21 of his players named All-MAC first team and 16 players named All-MAC second team. In 2001, Rembielak guided John Van Benschoten to MAC Player of the Year honors, becoming just the second Kent State player to earn the award.
Currently in his fifth year as head coach at Wake Forest, Rembielak has steadily improved the baseball program. The Demon Deacon head coach has compiled a 120-112 record over his first four seasons, including a 55-63 mark in Atlantic Coast Conference games.
In 2007, Rembielak led Wake Forest to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 20002. The Deacs advanced to the tournament thanks in large part to their strong showing at the 2007 ACC Championships, where they advanced to the finals before falling to eventual College World Series runner-up North Carolina.
Wake received a bid to the Round Rock (Texas) Regional and earned a No. 3 seed. After opening the tournament with a loss to eventual College World Series team UC Irvine, the Deacs rebounded by defeating Ivy League champion Brown in the second round. Wake Forest took host school and No. 5-ranked Texas to 12 innings before bowing out of the postseason.
Wake Forest opens the 2009 season on Friday, February 20, playing host to Akron at 6 p.m. (ET).
