PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Junior Thomas Sensing finished 14th in the 30-member field of the men's javelin on Saturday as the Wake Forest track & field team wrapped up action on the third day of the 115th Penn Relays.
Sensing turned in a mark of 189-01 to finish 14th while the women's 4x800-meter relay team of Dina Nosenko, Merry Placer, Laura Rapp and Cate Berenato also took 14th in the college division race with a time of 9:05.17.
On Friday, the women's 4x200-meter relay team of Alex Gove, Nicole Castronuova, Erin Brooks and Katelyn Wohlford set a new school-record with a time of 1:39.08 in the prelims. While the team didn't advance to the finals, they did eclipse the previous school-record of 1:39.51 which was set earlier this season by Gove, Wohlford, Melissa Council and Lily Kessinger at the Raleigh Relays on March 28.
Sensing turned in a season-best mark of 51-5.75 in the shot put to finish 11th in the college division. He bettered his previous season-best of 50-7.25, which he set last week at the ACC Championships.
Freshman Erin Brooks took seventh in the triple jump with a season-best leap of 39-10.50, which was just two inches shy of the school-record.
The women's 4x1,500-meter relay squad of Anna Nosenko, Placer, Dina Nosenko and Berenato turned in a solid time of 18:18.84 to finish sixth in the event. The race winner, Tennessee, ran a Penn Relay record 17:08.34. In fact, Georgetown and Washington, which finished second and third, also finished better than the previous record of 17:15.62.
The women's sprint medley capped the night with a seventh-place finish in a time of 3:56.73. Team members included Caroline Vaughn, Castronuova, Council and Vos.
On Thursday, Vaughn won her heat of the 400-meter hurdles and finished third overall with a time of 58.92, which was just two-tenths of a second off her season-best.
The women's distance medley relay team of Dina Nosekno, Castronuova, Vos and Anna Nosenko turned in a time of 11:38.28 to finish seventh in the event. Dina Nosenko ran a nice opening leg and then passed off to Castronuova who ran the 400-meter portion in 55.8. She was followed by Vos' 2:16.8 800-meter leg and Anna Nosenko finished it off with a solid 4:54.0 mile.
For the men, senior John Compton took part in the men's Olympic Development 5,000-meter race. He finished 26th overall with a time of 14:49.33, which was just four seconds off his personal-best.
The Demon Deacons will now take a couple of weeks off for final exams and get back on the track at the North Carolina fast times on May 8 and the Clemson Orange and Purple Classic on May 9.
