Field Hockey Ranked 2nd in NFHCA Preseason Poll

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest field hockey team was voted the No. 2 team in the nation according to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association preseason poll announced this week.
In 2008 the Demon Deacons finished 22-4 overall and earned the runner-up finish in both the ACC and NCAA tournaments. Head Coach Jennifer Averill was named ACC Coach of the Year follow the team's standout performance.
Maryland, the 2008 NCAA Tournament winner, filled the NFHCA's top slot in the 2009 preseason poll and Syracuse, fellow 2008 Final Four contender, placed third. North Carolina and Connecticut round out the rest of the 2009 top five.
Play opens nationally this weekend. Wake Forest will kick off action at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, hosted by Iowa, on Saturday, August 29.
