
Baseball Opens Black & Gold World Series This Weekend

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest baseball team opens the Black & Gold World Series with a pair of games this weekend. First pitch for game one on Saturday is set for 8 p.m., while game two will begin on Sunday at noon.
The five-game Black & Gold World Series serves as the culmination to the Demon Deacons' fall practice schedule.
After the two games this weekend, the series resumes on Tuesday with game three at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday will also serve as the team's Scout Day. The series wraps up with game four on Saturday, November 13, at 6 p.m., and game five on Sunday, November 14, at 6 p.m.
The Black team will be managed by assistant coach Bill Cilento and be the home team for games one, three and five of the series. Returning position players for the Black team include Pat Blair (.270, 7 HR, 25 RBI), Steven Brooks (.349, 6 HR, 39 RBI), Jack Carey and Carlos Lopez (.229, 7 HR, 22 RBI). The rest of the position players for the Black team include Brett Armour, Dalton DeVos, Conor Keniry, Charlie Morgan, Grant Shambley, Evan Stephens and Chris Willson.
On the mound, the Black team will look to the following veteran pitchers: Ryan Burke, Niko Spezial (1-4, 4.43), Michael Dimock (3-9, 6.32) and Mark Adzick (0-0, 6.35). Brian Holmes, John McLeod and Willson round out the Black pitching staff.
The Gold team will be managed by assistant coach Grant Achilles and will be the home team for games two and four of the series. The roster for the Gold team features returners Matt Conway (.382, 6 HR, 32 RBI), Ryan Lloyd (.131, 1 HR, 6 RBI), Mike Lubanski (.175, 1 HR, 7 RBI), Mark Rhine (.279, 1 HR, 25 RBI) and Mac Williamson (.279, 7 HR, 37 RBI). The remainder of the position players for the Gold team includes Jack Fischer, James Harris, Stephen Schoettmer, Bryan Willis and Zane Yanzick.
The pitching staff for the Gold team includes Gabe Feldman (0-0, 17.05), Daniel Marrs, Eli Robins (0-0, 10.38) and Justin Van Grouw (1-4, 5.18). The Gold team also has newcomers Joe Max Floyd, Nate Jones and Chuck Schlegel on its pitching staff.
