Tim Duncan grabbed a staggering 26 boards last Wednesday in the Spurs' 90-87 win at Indiana, one shy of his career total - 27 vs. Atlanta on Jan. 27, 2010. He also contributed eight points, five assists, two steals and two blocks in the Spurs' three-point victory. Last Friday, he just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds in a loss at Philadelphia. Although he started off the week shooting only 8-of-33 from the floor, Duncan netted 29 points on 11-of-21 from the floor at Detroit on Sunday. He finished the game with his 28th double-double, which ranks seventh in the NBA, after pulling down 10 rebounds and notching three thefts.
For the Atlanta Hawks this week, Jeff Teague came off the bench for 26 minutes in three away games. He recorded a career-high four steals at the Los Angeles Clippers last Wednesday, propelling him to second overall in the NBA ranks for steals per 48 minutes with 2.91. Teague also totaled four assists and three points at Golden State on Sunday.
James Johnson played in all four games for Chicago this week. On Saturday, he scored seven points with a block and an assist in 10 minutes on the floor in the Bulls' 122-90 win against Philadelphia. He finished the week shooting a perfect 2-of-2 from the floor for four points, to go with two blocks, a rebound, an assist and a steal in a loss at Washington on Monday.
It was an injury-ridden week for the former Demon Deacons in the NBA. On Tuesday, the Washington Wizards announced that Josh Howard will miss the remainder of the NBA season with a torn ACL in his left knee, while Chris Paul and Darius Songaila remained sidelined for the New Orleans Hornets all week.
Howard went down with 4:23 left in the first quarter on Monday against Chicago. At that juncture, he had a team-high seven points. Howard made an immediate impact for Washington, scoring in double figures in his first three games for the Wizards. On Friday, Howard dropped in 8-of-11 from the floor for 20 points to go with four rebounds in a win against the Nuggets. He recorded 17 points, seven boards, four helpers and a block in a loss at Toronto on Saturday. In his debut with the Wizards, Howard scored 14 points and recorded three thefts against Minnesota.
Last Wednesday for the New Orleans Hornets, Darius Songaila turned his ankle going for a loose ball in the fourth quarter against the Jazz. He totaled four boards, four steals, three assists and two points before leaving the game. Songaila is projected to miss approximately two weeks with a right ankle sprain. Teammate Paul also remained sidelined this week for New Orleans.
