Shin Leads Deacons In Opening Round of Tiger/Wave Classic

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Freshman Michelle Shin made three birdies in her round of 3-over 75 to lead the Wake Forest women's golf team after the opening round of the Tiger/Wave Classic in New Orleans. As a team, the Deacons carded a 314 on Friday and currently stand in a tie for 19th.
Shin birdied holes four and five and would make the turn at 1-over par 37. She remained at 1-over after a birdie at the par-4 14th but bogeyed the last two holes to post a 73. She will start the second round tied for 26th.
Alabama leads the tournament, which is being played at English Turn Country Club (par 72, 6,132 yards). The Crimson Tide carded an opening round 5-over 293 and holds a one-shot lead over LSU. Alabama's Brooke Pancake and LSU's Tessa Teachman each posted 2-under 70s and lead the individual race.
Wake Forest sophomore Cheyenne Woods overcame a pair of double-bogies on the front nine to post an opening round 5-over 77. She made a pair of birdies on Friday and will start the second round tied for 47th.
Junior Allie Bodemann and freshman Stephanie Kim each carded opening round 81s and are tied for 91st while junior Natalie Sheary posted an 82 and is tied for 104th.
The second round will begin at 8 am Saturday morning. Golfstat.com will provide live scoring of the final two rounds.
