CLEMSON, S.C. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team fell 6-1 to ninth-ranked Clemson on Sunday afternoon in Clemson, S.C.
Wake Forest is now 7-8 and 1-2 in the ACC. Clemson improves to 16-3 and 4-1 in league play.
The Demon Deacons dropped two tough doubles matches at Nos. 1 and 2. Sasha Kulikova and Kathryn Talbert challenged 17th-ranked Josipa Bek and Ina Hadziselimovic to 9-7 contest at No. 1 and Emilee Malvehy and Aileen Davis took Nelly Ciolkowski and Caroline Magnusson to a tie breaker at No. 2 where they fell 9-8 (6).
The lone singles win of the night came from freshman Ryann Cutillo, who kept the Deacons clear of the sweep with a 6-2, 1-6, 1-0 (7) win over Estefania Balda at No. 5.
Kathyrn Talbert had a three-set battle with Hadziselimovic at No. 3, but fell 6-2, 2-6, 6-0. At No. 1 Martina Pavelec faced No. 22 Josipa Bek in two intense sets, but dropped both (7-5, 6-7(5)).
The Demon Deacons will return to play on Wednesday when they head to Chapel Hill to face the UNC Tar Heels.
