CLEMSON, SC - Senior Brent LaRue turned in a pair of personal-bests and advanced to the finals in two events as he led the Wake Forest track & field team on the second day of the 2010 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

LaRue started his day by leaping a personal-best 23-7.50 in the long jump to finish fourth overall. He bested his previous best, which he set earlier this year, by more than two inches. The Kernersville, NC, native then ran a personal-best in the prelims of the 110m hurdles as he finished third in his heat with a time of 13.96.

Finally, LaRue capped the day by cruising to a heat victory in the prelims of the 400m hurdles as he crossed the line in 52.27. He will now have a busy Saturday as he will run in the finals of the 110m hurdles at 3:40 pm, the finals of the 400m hurdles at 5:00 pm and a leg in the 4x400m relay at 6:40 pm.

In the finals of the men's 3,000m steeplechase, senior Marcus Dillon shaved almost 14 seconds off his previous personal-best as he finished fifth overall in a time of 9:04.49. Paul Loeser finished 11th in the event at 9:29.07 and Jake Graham took 14th at 9:35.98.

Seniors Jon Reid and Tyler Dodds both qualified for the finals of the men's 400m dash on Saturday as they finished second and third in the third of four heats with times of 48.13 and 48.60, respectively. The finals will be at 4:00 pm on Saturday and then the duo will join LaRue in the men's 4x400m relay at the end of the day.

On the women's side, sophomore Dina Nosenko finished second in her prelim heat of the women's 1,500m run as she cruised home with an easy time of 4:30.98. She enters Saturday's final with the sixth fastest time. Casey Fowler also ran a personal-best of 4:38.40 in the prelims but missed out on the finals.

Seniors Caroline Vaughn and Alex Gove both qualified for the finals in separate hurdle events. Vaughn ran a season-best 13.45 to finish second in her heat of the women's 100m hurdles. Gove also ran a personal-best in the 400m hurdles, clocking in at 59.07 to finish third in the faster of the two heats.

Graduate student Erin Redden ran a season-best 10:51.45 to finish 10th in the women's 3,000m steeplechase while Caitlin Crawford finished 18th at 11:37.35.

For the second time this season, sophomore Molly Binder ran a solid 800m prelim but narrowly missed out on the finals. She finished third in her heat with a time of 2:12.79 on Friday and finished with the 11th-best time overall. However, only the top-nine times advanced to the finals. At the indoor meet, Binder won her heat but she was the first time left out of the finals.

Junior Kim Vos also ran a solid time of 2:16.01 in the prelims of the 800m run while Cate Berenato ran a season-best 2:20.51 but neither time made the finals.

In the field events, senior Thomas Sensing took eighth in the men's shot put with a toss of 53-09.00 and sophomore Michael Wooten took 14th at 40-10.25. Fellow sophomore Sarah Brobeck finished 13th in the women's shot put with a mark of 39-08.75.

In the men's decathlon, which finished Friday afternoon, sophomore Alex Hill recorded a personal-best total of 6,553 points to finish the event fourth overall. This is his second-straight strong performance in the decathlon at the ACCs as he finished sixth last year as a freshman with a then personal-best of 6,103 points.

North Carolina's Mateo Sossah held on for a narrow victory over Clemson's Miller Moss in the decathlon as Sossah finished with 7,667 points and Moss checked-in with 7,628 points.

Hill started the day by running a personal-best of 15.62 in the 110m hurdles to finish fifth in that event. He then recorded another personal-best of 111-07 in the discus before vaulting 11-03.75 and tossing the javelin 156-04.

The women's heptathlon also finished on Friday as freshman Gwen and Maddy Ricco finished 10th and 11th respectively. Maddy started the day with a season-best jump of 17-09.50 in the long jump while Gwen checked-in at 15-04.00. The duo then closed the day with solid performances in the 800m run. Gwen finished third in the event with a time of 2:21.17 while Maddy crossed the line in 2:27.09.

Gwen finished the event with a total of 4,603 points and finished Maddy collected a personal-best total of 4,529 points.

The finals of the women's pole vault will kickoff the final day at 11 am on Saturday and the finals of the men's 4x100m relay will get the track events started at 3:00 pm.
