WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Wake Forest field hockey team recently concluded its Weed Whacker Program in which the team taught the game to a number of young kids in the Winston-Salem area.
Over the past few months, the Demon Deacons have spent time with groups of kids ages 3 to7, teaching them hockey skills as well as life skills. The program was started six years and only had 10-15 participants. This year, there were almost 80 kids involved. The team hopes the program will continue to grow and help better establish a younger group of children playing hockey in the Winston-Salem area.
Last Thursday, the program culminated with a small tournament and a pizza party. Photos from that event are in the slide show above.
