Deacon Track & Field Wraps-Up Busy Weekend

EUGENE, Ore. - Sisters Dina and Anna Nosenko each turned in personal-best performances in the women's 1,500m run at the Oregon Twilight Meet in Eugene, Ore., Saturday night to cap a busy weekend for the Wake Forest track & field team.
The Demon Deacons were spread out at three different meets this weekend as they prepare for the NCAA First Round which is set for May 27-29, in Greensboro, NC.
Running in a very strong field, the Nosenkos were able to top their previous personal bests by almost two full seconds on Saturday. Dina took fifth in the event with a time of 4:20.45 while Anna was close behind in sixth at 4:21.19. Those times have the sisters comfortably inside the top-20 times in the East Region this season.
Also in Eugene Saturday night, senior Marcus Dillon ran a solid 3,000m steeplechase and finished second with a time of 9:05.30.
The majority of the track & field team competed this weekend at the Clemson Orange & Purple Classic in Clemson, SC. Senior Jon Reid won both the men's 100m and 200m events with personal-best times. He crossed the line in 10.53 to win the 100m dash and nipped the tape at 21.08 in the 200m dash. Fellow senior Tyler Dodds also ran a personal-best in the 200m, finishing third at 21.74. He then won the 400m dash in a time of 47.69.
Sophomore Michael Wooten turned in a season-best in the discus, finishing at 152-11. He also finished third in the shot put with a toss of 41-11.50. Senior Thomas Sensing finished second in the shot put after a toss of 52-02.00 and then was fourth in the javelin with a mark of 196-03.
Freshman Ben Lincoln won the javelin after a throw of 207-10 while classmate Luke Hadden finished third at 199-00.
Senior Brent LaRue continued his preparation for the NCAA First Round in the 400m hurdles as he won the event with a solid time of 52.07.
On the women's side, senior Nicole Castronuova ran season-bests in the 100m and 200m events, finishing fifth in the 200 at 24.05 and eighth in the 100 at 12.00. Freshman Maddy Ricco also had a pair of season-best performances on Saturday. She finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 18-04.25 and sixth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.02.
Freshman Myesha Barr finished second in the women's 400m dash in a time of 58.61 while junior Katelyn Wohlford ran a season-best 2:22.17 to finish first in the 800m run.
At the Tony Waldrop Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, NC, graduate student Erin Reddan led five Demon Deacons across the line in the women's 1,500m run with a third place finish. Redden crossed the line in 4:37.09 while Casey Fowler finished fifth at 4:40.51, Cate Berenato took eighth in a season-best 4:48.56 and Whitney Curry took ninth in a season-best best 4:49.21. Caitlin Crawford was the fifth Deacon to finish as she took 11th at 4:53.26.
Sophomore Molly Binder turned in a solid time of 2:11.92 to win the women's 800m run in Chapel Hill while redshirt junior Kim Voss took sixth in 2:13.92.
Freshman Nate Guthals was the top Demon Deacon in the men's 800m run at the Tony Waldrop as he finished ninth with a time of 1:56.11. Fellow freshman Michael McEnany finished close behind him in 10th at 1:56.23 and Thomas Morrison took 13th at 1:58.15.
Wake Forest will now host the Deacon Combined Events Classic on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 11-12. The next full team event will be next weekend at the Georgia Tech Invitational. That event will be the Deacs' final meet before the NCAA First Round in Greensboro. The top-48 qualified athletes in each event in their respective regions will earn a berth.
