WILMINGTON, N.C. - Senior All-American Cheyenne Woods survived the cool windy and posted a 3-over 75 to pace the Wake Forest women's golf team in the second round of the Landfall Tradition.
As a team, the Demon Deacons carded a round of 315 and are in 12th place heading into Sunday's final round.
"It was really windy today and that definitely effected us around the greens," said Wake Forest head coach Dianne Dailey. "The wind picked-up and we just didn't handle it well when it came to putting and chipping. We threw away too many shots. But that is something that is correctable and we're working on that. We have the talent so it's only a matter of time."
Woods got off to a much better start on Saturday as she was 1-under through four holes. She then made three bogeys in a five-hole stretch to make the turn in 2-over 38. The Phoenix, Ariz., native then made back-to-back birdies at Nos. 11 and 12 to get back to 1-under for the day but she finished with three bogeys to post a 75. Through two rounds, Woods is tied for 13th at 9-over par.
Sophomore Olafia Kristinsdottir carded another solid round on Saturday, posting a 5-over 77. She made a total of three birdies and now has five on the weekend. Kristinsdottir will start the final round in 23rd place at 11-over par.
Freshman Marissa Dodd opened the tournament on Friday with a team-best round of 4-over 76 but could not keep the momentum rolling on Saturday. She ran into a little bit of trouble midway through the back nine and would end up carding a 10-over 82. Dodd is 14-over through 36 holes and is tied for 43rd.
Fellow freshman Emily Wright carded an 81 in round two while junior transfer Greta Lange finished with an 84.
Purdue came into the second round seven shots behind Auburn but carded the lowest round of the day, a 303, and now leads the Tigers by two shots heading into the final round. Duke is still within striking distance in third at 41-over par and 10 shots back.
Individually, no players are under-par. Auburn's Victoria Trapani shot rounds of 72-73 and has a three-shot lead over first round leader Paula Reto of Purdue.
The final round is set for an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start Sunday morning. Wake is paired with NC State and Florida State. Golfstat.com will have live scoring of the final round.
