DAUFUSKIE ISLAND, S.C. - Wake Forest senior Lee Bedford shot a 1-under 71 on Monday afternoon at the Rees Jones Invitational and is in a tie for 2nd through 36-holes. The Demon Deacons are in third place as a team after rounds of 306 and 296.
Bedford started his day with a 2-over 74 but bounced-back with that 71 to finish the long 36-hole day at 1-over 145. He is in a tie for second place with South Carolina's Dykes Harbin but the two players trail Iowa State's Nate McCoy by seven shots. McCoy shot rounds of 68-70 and is 6-under par.
Sophomore Thomas Birdsey and junior Charlie Harrison both stand at 7-over par through 36 holes and are tied for 19th. Harrison bounced-back from a morning round 79 to card an even-par 72. Birdsey posted a pair of consistent rounds of 75-76.
Junior All-American Evan Beck had a bit of a tough day, shooting rounds of 79-77 and will start Tuesday's final round in a tie for 37th. Sophomore John Varol opened the day with a 78 but posted an 83 in the afternoon.
The Deacons carded a round of 306 in the morning and would shave 10 shots off that number in the afternoon, posting a 296. That has them in third place in the 13-team field.
Iowa State used McCoy's good rounds to open up a four-shot lead on South Carolina. The Cyclones are 18-over through the two rounds while South Carolina is 22-over and the Deacons are 26-over.
The Deacons will be in the final grouping Tuesday with Iowa State and South Carolina. Check back to WakeForestSports.com for a complete recap at the end of the round.
