Final Stats

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Freshman Brigita Bercyte earned the first ACC singles victory of her career Friday afternoon, but the No. 54 Wake Forest women's tennis team fell 6-1 to Maryland at Leighton Stadium.

With the win, the 30th-ranked Terps improve to 13-7 (3-7 ACC) on the season while the Deacs fall to 6-14 (0-10 ACC).

The match could officially go down in the record books as the last collegiate match played at Leighton Stadium, as tomorrow's forecast of rain makes an indoor setting highly likely for the match against Boston College.

Bercyte picked up the victory against Julia Huschke in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. The Brooklyn, N.Y. native never trailed in the first set, and with the win, she improves her singles record on the year to 3-6.

The Terps' Welma Luus and Ana Belzunce picked up the first doubles win of the afternoon at the No. 2 position, claiming an 8-4 victory over Ryann Cutillo and Kayla Duncan.

The Terps would go on to pick up wins at both of the remaining doubles positions to sweep the doubles point.

In singles action, the deciding match of the day came at the No. 2 position where Maryland's Jordaan Sanford defeated Emilee Malvehy 6-3, 6-2.

After dropping her first set, Ryann Cutillo battled back to claim a hard-fought 7-5 victory in the second set against Welma Luus, but would eventually fall 10-7 in the deciding third-set tiebreaker.

The Deacs return to action tomorrow against Boston College at noon. The match is scheduled to be played at Leighton Stadium, but with thunderstorms in the forecast, the match will most likely be played at the Indoor Tennis Center.
