Deacons Notch Two Victories at High Point Vertklasse Meeting

HIGH POINT, N.C. - The men's track and field team came away with two victories and several other top-5 finishes in Sunday's Vertklasse Meeting at High Point University's Dick Vert Stadium.
Senior Allan Lunkenheimer starred for the Deacs in the 400m dash, coming away with the victory in the event and a time of 48.37. The first-place finish marked his first top-10 in the event this season.
Sophomore Ben Lincoln continued his fantastic streak in the javelin throw as well, claiming his fifth top-5 finish of the season and first victory in the event with a throw of 214-2 (65.28m). Lincoln also broke the facility and meet records with the toss, and has cleared 200 feet with each of his five throws this season.
The Deacons will return to action beginning Thursday at the ACC Outdoor Championships to be held at Wallace-Wade Stadium on the campus of Duke University in Durham. The meet will continue through Saturday, April 23.
Following is an event-by-event breakdown of all the action from the Vertklasse Meeting.
100m Dash
Freshman duo Hiter Harris and Sterling Wilkins ran well for the Deacons in the event, each claiming a top-15 finish for the first time this season. Harris placed ninth with a time of 11.29, while Wilkins finished 14th in 11.46. The times represent new personal bests for each athlete.
110m Hurdles
Junior Alex Hill posted another top-5 finish on the day for the Deacs. His time of 15.12, a new personal best, was enough to place third overall in the competition.
400m Dash
Allan Lunkenheimer led the way for Wake Forest, taking first place and crossing the line in 48.37. Junior Kevin Smith also claimed a top finish, placing fourth overall with a time of 48.75, a new personal best in the event.
400m Hurdles
Sophomore Sean Lunkenheimer excelled in his specialty event with a runner-up finish, his best of the season, and a time of 52.59, a new personal best. Freshman Malcolm Nunley also registered the best finish of his young career, placing third after finishing in 54.28. Junior Justin Bookheimer also had a top-10 finish; his time of 58.19 gave him eighth place overall.
800m Run
Sophomores Michael McEnany and Anthony Marois ran with freshman Kyle Eager in the 800m. Despite being the youngest of the trio, Eager grabbed the top finish of fourth overall in a time of 1:53.45. McEnany followed in sixth with a time of 1:54.11, and Marois placed 21st in 2:06.04. Eager broke his old personal best time in the event by more than four seconds.
One Mile Run
Anthony Marois was the lone runner for the Deacons in the event, taking 11th place in a time of 4:22.53.
Javelin Throw
Ben Lincoln's phenomenal run continued with his first victory of the season following a toss of 214-2 (65.28m). Fellow sophomore Luke Hadden gave the Deacons a 1-2 finish by taking the runner-up spot with a mark of 197-11 (60.32m). Alex Hill, in his first action since the Liberty Collegiate Invitational, finished sixth with a throw of 167-7 (51.08m), a new personal best.
Shot Put
Junior Michael Wooten netted a top-5 finish by placing fifth overall. His throw of 44-4.25 (13.52m) was his second-best of the season.
Discus Throw
Michael Wooten led the way for Wake in the event, throwing a distance of 151-0 (46.02m) to earn a fourth-place finish. Freshman Nate Wooten claimed a new personal best throw of 140-11 (42.96m) to finish seventh, and Alex Hill recorded a toss of 108-10 (33.18m) to finish 12th overall.
