Dodds Paces Deacs on Final Day of ACC Championships

DURHAM, N.C. - Senior Tyler Dodds turned in a strong performance on the final day of the ACC Championships Saturday evening at Duke University's Wallace Wade Stadium, finishing fifth in the 400-meters.
Dodds was also a member of the 4x400-meter relay team that earned fourth place overall in a season-best time of 3:13.32.
Sean Lunkenheimer and Malcolm Nunley finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles, while freshman Alexander Rose led a field of four Deacon runners in the 5,000-meter run.
The Wake Forest men's squad finished eighth overall with a total of 38 points. Florida State claimed the team title on the men's side with 174.5 points, while Clemson captured the crown on the women's side, totaling 202 points.
Following is an event-by-event breakdown of action from the third and final day of the ACC Outdoor Championships.
1500m
Freshman Alexander Rose finished eighth in the finals of the 1500m run, crossing the line in 3:50.35. The Brisbane, Australia native was one of just three freshmen to compete in the finals.
400m
Running out of Lane 7, senior Tyler Dodds finished fifth in the 400m with a time of 47.76. With his top-five finish, Dodds has solidified himself as one of the top 400 runners in the ACC, as he claimed fourth-place honors in the event during the indoor season.
400m Hurdles
The Deacon duo of Sean Lunkenheimer and Malcolm Nunley finished back-to-back in the 400m hurdles, as Lunkenheimer claimed sixth place in a time of 53.16 and Nunley took seventh in 56.72.
5,000m
The Deacs fielded a strong group of distance runners in the 5,000-meter run with freshman Alexander Rose leading the way in a time of 14:41.65. Saturday's race marked the first collegiate 5,000-meter competition of Rose's young career.
Joining the freshman in the event was sophomore Garret Drogosch with a 19th place finish in a time of 14:48.07. Fellow sophomore Tom Finneran raced in the 5,000 meters for the first time this season, finishing in just under 15 minutes with a time of 14:59.59 to claim 21st place.
Rounding out the field of 5,000m runners for the Deacs was redshirt-freshman Devin Huizenga, and he turned in a time of 15:20.89 to finish 27th.
4x400m Relay
The 4x400m relay squad of Allan Lunkenheimer, Kevin Smith, Tyler Dodds, and Sean Lunkenheimer turned in a strong performance in the final event of the ACC Championships, finishing fourth overall in a time of 3:13.32.
Sean Lunkenheimer, running the anchor leg for Wake Forest, held off Boston College's Bradley Noss in the closing stretch of the race to secure the fourth-place finish for the Deacs.
Pole Vault
Trey Blanton no-heighted in the pole vault for the Deacons.
