Wake Forest and Virginia Tech will meet in a three-game series at Wake Forest Baseball Park on April 8-10.
The Demon Deacons enter the weekend with an overall record of 11-18 and a 4-8 record in conference play. Wake Forest is currently tied with Clemson for eighth place in the ACC, just a half game behind Boston College (4-7) and a game behind NC State (5-7).
Virginia Tech enters the weekend with marks of 15-16 overall and 1-11 in the ACC (12th).
Wake Forest recently played two midweek games for the first time this season, splitting a home-and-home series with High Point. The Demon Deacons took a 3-1 decision from the Panthers at WFBP on Tuesday before falling on the road 9-1 on Wednesday.
Matt Conway and Mac Williamson provided the excitement in the Deacs' win, hitting back-to-back homers in the sixth inning to take a 2-1 lead.
Brian Holmes earned the win in his second straight start to improve to 2-1. In his wins over Appalachian State (3/29) and High Point, Holmes has thrown 11.0 innings and has posted a 0.82 ERA with nine strikeouts.
Nate Jones and Michael Dimock helped close out the win against HPU, as Jones pitched two perfect innings and Dimock pitched a perfect ninth with three strikeouts to get the save.
On the year, Dimock and Jones have provided solid efforts primarily out of the bullpen with respective ERAs of 1.23 and 3.22.
Williamson is the team leader offensively and is flirting with .300, as he sits with a .299 average (32-for-107). The Deacon left fielder is also second on the team with 24 RBIs and five home runs, while he is tied with Pat Blair for the team lead in doubles (7).
Tim Cooney will get the start Friday night and will look to continue a very impressive season up to this point. The sophomore lefty is 3-1 in seven starts and has an ERA of 2.11, good enough for eighth in the conference.
As a team, Wake Forest is safely stealing bases on over 70 percent of its attempts. Leading the way is Steven Brooks who has swiped 10 bags on 11 tries. He currently ranks fourth all-time in career stolen bases at Wake with 59.
