WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest's Iain Atkinson has made the All-ACC Academic Men's Academic team for the second consecutive year, as announced today by the conference office.
The award was the latest on the academic side for Atkinson, who earlier in the year was one of only three recipients in all sports conference-wide of a prestigious Jim and Pat Thacker ACC Postgraduate Scholarship. The Washington, England native, who graduated in May with a degree in Business and Enterprise Management was also named to the 2010 All-ACC Academic team.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.0 cumulative average during his academic career.
Atkinson tied for the Wake Forest lead with 16 dual-match singles wins in 2011 while playing primarily at the No. 3 position. A strong doubles player and 2010 Doubles All-American, Atkinson teamed with David Hopkins to finish 2011 as the nation's No. 39-ranked doubles team.
Guillermo Gomez of Georgia Tech, the 2011 ACC Player of the Year, was named 2011 ACC Scholar-Athlete of the year.
