WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Riding the momentum of a 13-game winning streak, the Wake Forest baseball team is ranked in the Collegiate Baseball newspaper weekly poll and in the Perfect Game Top 50, as announced on Monday.
The Demon Deacons are ranked 24th in the 30-team Collegiate Baseball poll, while they are ranked No. 36 in the Perfect Game Top 50. In addition, Wake Forest received votes in the USA Today/ESPN Top 25 coaches' poll for the second consecutive week and was last ranked during the 2006 season.
The Deacs made some noise nationally this weekend when they swept Maryland 10-5, 9-6 and 4-3 to begin Atlantic Coast Conference play. The Terrapins were 11-1 entering the series with Wake Forest and were ranked nationally in several polls.
Wake Forest (14-4, 3-0 ACC) has not lost since falling to local-rival High Point on Feb. 28, 16-15. During the stretch, the Demon Deacons are hitting .307 and scoring 7.8 runs per game while holding their opponents to a .209 batting average and 3.2 runs per game. All 13 wins have come at home, as Wake Forest is in the midst of a 16-game homestand.
The Deacs will look to extend the winning streak on Tuesday and Wednesday, wrapping up the homestand with Georgia Southern and NJIT. Both games are schedule for 4 p.m. at Gene Hooks Field at Wake Forest Baseball Park.
Wake Forest will then go on the road for the first time in March this weekend when it travels to NC State for a three-game series.
