WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest has been named the Southeast Regional Team of the Week by College Baseball Insider for the week of March 5-11.
During that stretch, the Demon Deacons went 5-0 to improve their season-high winning streak to 13 consecutive games. The streak is the longest since Wake Forest won 15 straight in 1999.
The Deacs began the week with a pair of midweek victories over visiting Valparaiso. Wake Forest defeated the Crusaders 13-4 on Tuesday and 3-0 on Wednesday.
Wake Forest then entered the weekend with Maryland with each team riding a 10-game winning streak. The Demon Deacons prevailed in all three games to open up the ACC season with a sweep for the first time since sweeping Virginia in 2005. Wake defeated the Terrapins 10-5, 9-6 and 4-3 to improve to 14-4 on the year.
The Demon Deacons will be in action tonight when they play Georgia Southern at home at 4 p.m. at Gene Hooks Field at Wake Forest Baseball Park. The Deacs will then wrap up a 16-game homestand tomorrow when NJIT visits Winston-Salem.
