WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Former Wake Forest athletes continued their play in the 2012 London Olympics this week with strong results.
Men's Track and Field Former track and field All-American Brent LaRue set a personal record on Friday in the 400m hurdles with a time of 49.38 seconds and qualified for the semifinals. Running for Slovenia, LaRue placed 19th overall in the field.
Men's Basketball Chris Paul and the United States defeated Al-Farouq Aminu and Nigeria on Thursday by a score of 156-73. Paul chipped in seven points and seven assists. Aminu registered seven points as well with four assists and three rebounds. The United States remains undefeated and leads Group A with six points. Nigeria sits in fifth place in Group A with four points.
Darius Songaila and Lithuania lost to France 82-74 on Thursday with Songaila tallying four points, three rebounds and two assists. Lithuania sits in fourth place in Group A with four points.
Women's Field Hockey
After a thrilling 1-0 victory over No.2-ranked Argentina earlier in the week, the United States Field Hockey team fell 1-0 to Australia on Thursday. Captain Lauren Crandall, Michelle Kasold and Claire Laubach each played a fair share of the game with Crandall playing 65 minutes. The U.S. has three points in Group B and sits in fifth place.
Upcoming Events
LaRue will compete in the semifinals on Saturday at 2 p.m. (EST) on NBC in the 400m hurdles.
Paul and the U.S. go head-to-head with Songaila and Lithuania on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. (EST) on the NBC Sports Network while Nigeria plays Argentina at 5:15 p.m. (EST).
USA Field Hockey takes on New Zealand at 2 p.m. (EST) on the NBC Sports Network.
