GAME OF THE WEEK: FIELD HOCKEY VS. No. 1 UNC
9/10/2012 12:00:00 AM | Field Hockey
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The 13th-ranked field hockey team's matchup with No. 1 North Carolina on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Kentner Stadium has been named the Wake Forest Game of the Week. Fans in attendance can sign-in at the marketing table to be entered into a season-long drawing for great prizes, including a pair of men's basketball season tickets.
After dropping three heartbreaking losses, each by a single goal, to top-ranked North Carolina in 2011, the No. 13 Deacons will be seeking revenge on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at Kentner Stadium. Sunday's meeting will be the 63rd meeting between the two sides, and North Carolina holds the edge in the all-time series 39-19-4.
Wake Forest (2-3, 1-0 ACC) shocked No. 9 Duke in double overtime last Saturday behind Kari Walkley's golden goal in the 97th minute. The Deacs will take on No. 11 Northwestern on Tuesday in a mid-week showdown at Kentner Stadium before the clash with North Carolina, which will serve as a non-conference meeting ahead of their ACC game against the Tar Heels later in the year. Junior Jess McFadyen leads the Demon Deacons with three goals and seven points, while emerging freshman Krysta Wangerin and 2011 All-American Anna Kozniuk have each tallied five points.
The Tar Heels are 5-1 after defeating Villanova by a stunning 10-0 margin on Sunday. Four of their five wins have been by five goals or more, and their lone blemish came on a 1-0 loss in overtime at Syracuse on Sept. 1. Jaclyn Gaudioso Radvany leads North Carolina with six goals, while Samantha Travers sits just behind with five after tallying a hat trick against Villanova.
North Carolina has won the last five meetings in the series, with Wake's last win (a 2-1 victory) coming in the ACC Tournament on Nov. 7, 2008.
About the Wake Forest Game of the Week Program
Each week during the fall, one high-profile home event will be designated as the Game of the Week.
At that game, fans should check in at the marketing table to be entered into a season-long raffle, giving them one entry for every Game of the Week that they attend. The more games you go to, the greater chance you have to win.
At the end of the fall season, a drawing will be held for a Grand Prize of two men's basketball season tickets and a Wake Forest prize pack. Other prizes include four tickets to a men's basketball ACC home game, four tickets to a men's basketball non-conference game and four women's basketball season passes.
Below is the Game of the Week schedule for the rest of September. Games for the rest of the fall will be announced at a later date.
