No. 13 Wake Forest Welcomes Appalachian State

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - No. 13 Wake Forest will look to rebound against Appalachian State on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Kentner Stadium after dropping a mid-week tilt to Northwestern.
Last Time Out
• Despite getting the first goals of the season from Molly Murphy and Taylor Rhea, the Deacons dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 10 Northwestern on Tuesday afternoon at Kentner Stadium.
Storylines to Follow
• Jess McFadyen and Anna Kozniuk have starred on penalty corners for the Deacs this season, connecting three times on insertion plays.
• Madi Julius returned to the starting lineup against Northwestern, continuing Wake's trend of starting four freshmen (Julius, Jess Newak, Krysta Wangerin and Kali Vicars) thus far.
• Lizzie Rae and Taylor Rhea have combined for more than a quarter of total shots (23) and nearly half of the shots on goal (16) for the Demon Deacons.
• Wake Forest has been a major threat in the second half of games this season, outshooting opponents 40-29 and tallying 18 corners to just 12 for opponents.

Friday's Opponent
• Appalachian State travels to Kentner Stadium on a two-game winning streak after defeating Saint Louis and Pennsylvania by the same 3-2 score.
• The Mountaineers have already matched their win total from all of 2011 with the two victories.
Series History
• The Deacs and Mountaineers have a very long history dating all the way back to 1972.
• The Demon Deacons lead the series 29-16-1, but have dominated as of late, winning the last 20 meetings. Appalachian State's last win came on Oct. 24, 1991, with a 1-0 victory in overtime.
• Wake Forest has outscored the Mountaineers by an amazing 37-2 margin over the last five games in the series.
Next Up
• Wake Forest will face No. 1 North Carolina on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at Kentner Stadium.
• The contest will not be considered an ACC matchup for scheduling purposes.
• Wake's last win against UNC came on Nov. 7, 2008, but the Tar Heels have won eight straight since then.
