ALPHARETTA, Ga. - The Wake Forest men's golf team carded a round of even-par 288 and remains in the hunt through two rounds of the U.S. Collegiate Championship at the Golf Club of Georgia.

At one point on Saturday, the Demon Deacons climbed to within one shot of the lead and was 8-under par for the tournament. Even though the team gave up a few shots at the end, it still remains just nine shots behind leader Oklahoma State. The Cowboys are 11-under par for the event while the Deacons are 2-under par.

"Overall, I'm pleased with where we are right now," said head coach Jerry Haas. "Yes, we gave away a few shots at the end but they weren't horrible shots. There was a three-putt here and there and those are manageable. This is a course where you can get hot and get on a roll. We're going to go out tomorrow and try to get on one of those rolls and see what happens. The guys are playing pretty well and we're improving from round to round."

Senior Thomas Birdsey and freshman Danny Guise have both been playing well the last two weekends. The duo is tied for 13th through 36 holes at 2-under par. Neither player has carded an over-par round in the last five rounds. Birdsey has posted a pair of matching 1-under 71s this weekend while Guise opened with a 72 on Friday and posted a 2-under 70 today. Guise made five birdies in an eight-hole stretch midway through his round on Saturday.

Senior Cyrus Stewart rebounded from an opening round 77 to card an even-par round of 72 on Saturday. Like Guise, he made four birdies in a six-hole stretch in his round.

Sophomore Davis Womble birdied two of his final four holes to finish with a 76 on Saturday while freshman Clancy Waugh carded a 3-over 75. After an opening round 70, Womble is now in a tie for 34th at 2-over par and Waugh is tied for 45th at 4-over par.

Georgia Tech's Ollie Schniederjans holds the 36-hole lead at 9-under par after rounds of 66-69. He has a four-shot cushion heading into Sunday's final round.

Live video of the final round will be shown at new.livestream.com/2013uscc/webcast beginning at 3 p.m. The Deacons will start the final round at 11 a.m. with Virginia and Iowa.
