Wake Forest Posts Strong Results in Season Opener

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest track and field team opened its season Saturday at the JDL College Kick-off Classic. The event took place at the JDL Fast Indoor Track Complex in Winston-Salem.
The Wake Forest women led the field in the 1,000-meter run with Kathryn Lazarchick placing in first, Tessa Riley in second, Marie Johnston in third and Natalie Sukramani in fourth. The Deacs had finishing times of 2:57.53, 3:01.15, 3:02.35 and 3:02.66 respectively.
In the pole vault Sydney White placed first (3.80m) and Madison Bragg placed 4th (3.50m). For the long jump Julie McCauley placed 13th (5.03m) and in the triple jump Montasia Golden placed second (12.04m).
In the 500-meter dash, sophomore Kendal Knous secured a fourth place finish with a time of 1:18.59. Senior Allison Johnson followed close behind finishing in sixth place with a time of 1:19.39 and teammate Jacqueline Bedingham placed 19th with a time of 1:23.16.
Competing in the 60-meter hurdles for the Demon Deacons were senior Erika Martin finishing in fourth place with a time of 8.81 and freshman Hunter Roberts placing seventh with a time of 8.92.
In the 800-meter run, Alyssa Thompson led the Demon Deacons finishing in eighth with a time of 2:27.03. Freshman Elise Moore finished in 10th with a time of 2:29.46 with fellow freshman Amy Collins finishing in 14th with a time of 2:39.49.
In the 300-meter run Senior Mytoia Gathings finished in 18th with a time of 42.32, senior Allison Johnson placed 22nd with a time of 42.76, with Jacqueline Bedingham in 27th with a time of 42.92 and Hunter Roberts in 29th with a time of 43.32.
Competing in the field events, freshman Casidy Callahan placed fifth in the weight throw with a distance of 15.92m. In the shot put, Callahan placed fifth with a throw of 12.24m, Alyssa Thompson placed 24th with a throw of 9.31m and Amy Collins threw for 8.39m. For the high jump, junior Nyki Caldwell placed third with a jump of 1.77m.
On the men's side, for the one-mile run, senior Thomas Bojankowski and senior Kyle Eager placed in first and second respectively with times of 4:21.21 and 4:21.34.
Senior Malcolm Nunley finished in 13th place in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:08.04 and freshman Brady Wilson followed close behind finishing in 20th with a time of 1:10.74. Nunley finished 10th in the 300-meter run with a time of 36.10
Competing in the field events, with a first place finish in the pole vault was Scott Marshall with a height of 5.00m. In the long jump, Michael Mastanduno placed 8th (6.48m) and for the triple jump William Ray placed 5th (13.74m).
Freshman Charlie Ionata placed 6th in the weight throw with a distance of 16.33m.
Freshman Kyle Johnson placed 7th with a distance of 16.31m, senior Nate Wooten placed 9th with a throw of 15.65m and graduate student Teddy Mottola placed 10th with a throw of 14.68m.
In the shot put, Steve Michaelsen secured a third place finish throwing for 14.93m.
The Deacs will return to racing action on January 11 when they host the Wake Forest Invitational.
